Lake Trasimeno
The reason we bought the house here in 1982, was because of the lake. 8 miles across, but shallow enough for the water to reach a lovely temperature in the summer.
I know nothing about sailing, but the lake is famous for it's regattas, and has a reputation as great place to learn.

Just as popular today is Stand Up Paddle boarding, it's mill pond like surface is also great for beginners.

You can rent paddle boards all around the lake.
Many a day has been started with a coffee in Cafe Pescatore, and indeed, many an afternoon too!
Teenagers tend to prefer the bars at the beach on the other side of town, where there's volleyball, and other sports available.

You still see traditional fishing boats like the one shown on the lake, and some of the restaurants in town specialise in their catch.
There are three islands on the lake, two of which are reachable by ferry. Isola Maggiore is the longer trip, and the ferry departs from Castiglione. But our favourite is Isola Polvese (below), it's a nice spot for a picnic and swim.
